Steve Thayer's Profile

With more than 18 years of experience in the real estate industry, Steve Thayer is one of Colorado’s most experienced residential real estate professionals. From 2011 through 2026, Steve served as Managing Broker/Owner of Keller Williams Action Realty, where he oversaw more than 4,900 real estate sales representing more than $2.3 billion in sales volume. After more than a decade leading the brokerage, Steve stepped down from the Managing Broker role to devote more of his time and attention directly to his clients and to continuing to improve the level of service they receive.

Steve remains an owner of Keller Williams Action Realty, one of the most successful and productive real estate brokerages in Castle Rock, as well as Managing Broker/Owner of The Thayer Group. Since its founding in 2008, The Thayer Group has helped close more than 6780 residential real estate transactions representing more than $412 million in sales volume across 36+ Colorado communities. His extensive transactional experience, negotiation skills, and understanding of the Colorado real estate market are central to the team’s approach to representing buyers and sellers. Having supervised thousands of transactions throughout his career, Steve has developed an exceptional understanding of the details involved in taking a transaction from initial negotiations through closing. He further refined his negotiation skills by earning a Certificate in Negotiation Mastery from Harvard Business School Online.

Steve has also been extensively involved in the REALTOR® community and real estate industry. He has served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), as President of the Denver Metro Association of REALTORS® (DMAR), and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Douglas Elbert REALTOR® Association. His industry leadership has been recognized with numerous honors, including DMAR REALTOR® of the Year in 2021 and Douglas Elbert REALTOR® Association REALTOR® of the Year in 2015. Earlier in his career, he was named RE/MAX Southeast Rookie of the Year in 2008.

Steve’s professional accomplishments also include recognition as a 5280 Magazine Five Star Real Estate Agent since 2013, along with numerous Keller Williams production awards, including Platinum, Quadruple Gold, and Triple Gold honors.

Beyond real estate, Steve has a long record of civic and community involvement in Castle Rock. Since 2026, he has served on the Castle Rock Board of Adjustment. He has also served on the Meadows Metro District 1 Board of Directors, Castle Rock Public Safety Commission, Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Castle Rock Parks & Recreation Commission, Castle Rock Liquor License Authority, and DCS Montessori Educational Foundation Board of Directors. He served as Chairman of the Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce Board from 2007 to 2008 and as Co-Chair of the Castle Rock Liquor License Authority from 2000 to 2001.

Steve and Susan Thayer have received multiple recognitions for their involvement in the Castle Rock community, including Castle Rock Chamber of Commerce Small Businessperson of the Year in 2022 and Volunteer of the Year in 2017. Steve was also nominated for the Chamber’s Citizen of the Year award in 2010.

Steve earned a Master of Education in Sports Management from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Connecticut.

Outside of real estate and community service, Steve enjoys watching sports and television, attending Denver Nuggets games with his family, solving crossword puzzles, and playing backgammon.
